2024 This piece is a part of my ongoing Artificially Unintelligent series. We can only be here once, defining the next era and literally just at the precipice of AI. In a way this is a documentary series. Like how film, hairstyles and fashion becomes dated. So will this style and the errors of AI. Like looking back at old Polaroids. Right now we are living during an inflection point. The AI does not understand sentience. It can only copy us. It believes you can build humans like it can build an image, or itself. It still doesn’t understand physics completely. The creators admit they even don’t know how it works. People like Jack Dorsey have mad dark predictions that AI is taking away our agency. The overarching story of my works since 2023 has been the creation of images on record, of the birth of the Open AI artificial intelligence system. I’m creating a library of images from editions of Chat GPT / Dalle – 1 until 5. The series will end with the release of version 6. The imagery relates to the themes I see around us at present. I then repurpose these works into my own personal works, creating prints and acrylic paintings on canvas. I’m observing as the AI copes with trying to understand humanity and rules of the universe. I am often searching for the point in the creation process. The point at which I call the Break. All artwork is original, one of a kind and never could be repeated due to the ephemeral nature of AI systems unpredictability. Further, this body of works will become exhausted as a collection as the resources mined from the original versions become eliminated. Making this a limited edition.Materials used:
